In 1959, A. macleanii was crossed with A. cristophii from which a number of seedlings emerged, which flowerd for the first time in 1964 (5 years later).

A. globemaster was notable for its large green glossy leaves and the exceptionally large flower with a diameter of up to 25 cm (10”). This hybrid is sterile and does not produce seed so this variety has a long flowering period of no less than 4 weeks.
